Is Physiotherapy Covered by Medicare?

Affordable Medicare Physiotherapy Essendon, Niddrie and North West Melbourne

Keilor Road Physiotherapy offers Medicare physiotherapy for chronic pain and chronic disease management, including low back pain, neck pain, hip arthritis treatment, arthritis knee treatment and shoulder tendon tear treatment.

Medicare Physiotherapy

You can use Medicare rebates for Keilor Road Physiotherapy services.

The process here at Keilor Road Physiotherapy is simple:

  • Chronic disease management utilising allied health is for those who have been dealing with a chronic condition for longer than 6 months, or if their condition is likely to last longer than 6 months. You will need to see your GP, who can help make the decision.

  • Come to us after seeing your GP with a Chronic Disease Management Plan or CDM (formerly Enhanced Primary Care plan or EPC). Your GP will provide you with the necessary paperwork, or in most cases send the necessary paperwork directly to us.

  • Your initial consult, with one of our experienced physiotherapists, will be 40 minutes. You’ll receive a clear diagnosis, a timeframe for recovery and hands on physiotherapy treatment. We’ll also send a letter to your GP with our management plan.

  • We can claim your $58 Medicare rebate (July 2023) on the spot. Because we value your treatment outcomes, we charge a small gap of $18. This allows us to offer a longer 40 minute initial consult and longer 20 minute subsequent follow-up treatment consults. It also saves you from having to visit a Medicare office.

  • We take care of the payment and claims process for you:

1) You pay the full fee of $76 however you like.

2) We swipe your Medicare card and access the $58 rebate for you.

3) We swipe your DEBIT card, and put the $58 back onto that card on-the-spot. (Unfortunately, this needs to be a DEBIT card - we cannot process payment back on to credit cards.

5 Free Physiotherapy Sessions Australia

Once you have a CDM, you have 5 allied health sessions available to you per calendar year. This includes physiotherapy, podiatry, exercise physiology etc. This number is renewed each calendar year, but you will need a new referral from your GP at the start of each year.

Five free physiotherapy sessions is a great start for many people, however chronic pain and chronic disease treatment often require more than 5 sessions to treat properly. Your Keilor Road physiotherapist will outline a treatment plan at your initial consult.

To wrap it all together:

• Yes, you can get a Medicare rebate for physiotherapy, using a CDM plan from your GP.

• You need to see your GP first, to make sure your condition meets the necessary criteria (had chronic condition for longer than 6 months, or will last longer than 6 months).

• You can get $58 rebate for up to 5 visits per calendar year.

• We process the Medicare rebate on-the-spot, straight back onto your debit card, saving you from having to visit Medicare yourself.

  • There is a small gap fee of $18
