Am I covered for physiotherapy under WorkSafe?

WorkSafe (WorkSafe Victoria) is a compensation scheme for all Victorian employees in the event of a workplace injury. This scheme allows you to receive medical services, compensation, and rehabilitation while recovering from your workplace injury. Access to medical services is vital, as the vast majority of workplace claims are due to musculoskeletal injuries.

What to do when you have a workplace injury?

  1. Report the incident: If it's a serious incident, your employer will report it to WorkSafe and complete an incident form with details of your injury, ensuring you are eligible for rehabilitation and medical services included in the compensation scheme.

  2. Seek medical treatment: Access healthcare services early to fast-track your recovery and return to work. Early intervention physiotherapists here at Keilor Road Physiotherapy prevent the injury from deteriorating or having lasting effects.

  3. Obtain a certificate of capacity: If you need time off work, obtain a Certificate of Capacity (COC) from your GP. This certificate details the activities you can perform at work and any necessary adjustments. Once you have your initial COC, our physiotherapists have extra training so they are able to provide ongoing COC’s until you return to your full duties safely.

What do you need to make a WorkSafe claim?

  1. Complete a worker’s injury claim form: List all injuries related to your compensation claim. This form can be found on the WorkSafe website and is submitted to your employer.

  2. Await decision: The WorkSafe Agent will decide within 28 days of receiving the claim. You can see your GP or one of our physiotherapists while waiting for claim approval. Your employer is liable for the first $744 of medical services during this period.

Who is involved?

  1. Return to work coordinator: Assists you and your employer in returning to your previous duties safely.

  2. Case manager: Manages your claim and entitlement to medical services.

  3. Keilor Road Physiotherapy: We’re here to facilitate your recovery. All Keilor Road Physiotherapists have had extra training in the treatment of workplace injuries and are experts in reaching your goals, especially when it involves a return to what you love.
